RE104, Week 1: Prayers and Reflections
Prayer for the poor and homeless
Jesus, you are the poor one among us.
You identify yourself with the hungry,
and all those in need of help.
Their cry for justice is your cry for justice.
You suffered and died on the cross
so that we might be reconciled to God
in caring for all people.
Please comfort, strengthen,
and take care of the poor, the homeless,
and all those in need of your grace and mercy.
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
It is in dying, that we are born to eternal life.
A Prayer for Social Justice
Almighty and eternal God,
may your grace enkindle in all persons,
a love of the many unfortunate people
whom poverty and misery
reduce to a condition of life
unworthy of human beings.
Arouse in the hearts of those who call you Father,
a hunger and thirst for social justice
and for fraternal charity in deeds and in truth.
Grant, O Lord, peace in our days,
peace to souls,
peace to our community and peace among nations.
